- We had to band two books from our house. #1) Dragons Love Tacos. Although I love this book, Matthew's takeaway from the book was "spitting fire" which translated into Matthew spitting milk at the dinner table. #2) No David! Though this is a children's book, it really should be reserved for adults. Each page illustrates something that kids do to which parents would say "No!" For example: tracking mud in the house, splashing water all over the bathroom, streaking outside, etc. I'm afraid this book was giving Matthew too many ideas for having fun too! He especially likes running around the house naked!
- Matthew occasionally has a made-up word he likes to use. One that I actually caught was "angain", a combination of another and again.
- As much as Matthew likes dessert, he has a hard time saying the word and it usually comes out sounding like "essert". However, he has a firm grasp of dessert as reward for eating entire meal! His favorite "essert" is choc-o-late (enunciating each syllable).
- It's official, I no longer have a baby in the house! Matthew started climbing out of his crib, so we've resorted to having him sleep in the mattress on the floor. We've already sold the crib thanks to Craig's List, but I have to admit I got sentimental when I was disassembling it. I remember what a joyous day it was when I placed our order for it. Anyhow, Matthew is still learning how to sleep on a mattress and more than once I've had to move him back onto it. One night he was on the floor along the long side, another night he was on the floor at the head of the mattress on top of a bunch of stuffed animals. The funniest was when I found him asleep on the rocking chair, face down with his cheek on the lumbar pillow, one leg bent holding onto the seat cushion and the other dangling precariously. It looked like he could have fallen off at any moment!
- One morning I heard Grace say," We better play in the office because all of the loud toys are in here [her room]." I think she said this to her daddy since Matthew and I were still sleeping.
- By far, one of the kid's favorite Christmas gifts was the set of Magna Tiles. For several weeks, Grace would build something new to show Daddy when he got home from work. Matthew has also learned how to build in addition to knocking down the tiles.
- The one scary moment of the month was when Matthew was mistakenly given another kid's lunch that contained peanut butter. Ironically, the caregiver that gave it to him said she herself had a severe peanut allergy! Thankfully Matthew's reaction was minor and he only had hives on his face that cleared up with Benadryl. Nonetheless, I will be more diligent in insisting that anywhere he is cared for be peanut-free. (The mistake took place at a Mothers of Preschoolers meeting that I attend twice a month at a local church. I was just down the hall and the caregiver came and got me as soon as she realized the mistake.)
- The church we go to has a great kid's service called "Awesome Worship". They have hand signs that go along with the songs and are allowed to dance and move around without disrupting things too much. This month, Grace and Matthew and a friend all decided to get on stage and help lead doing the hand-motions. - Grace caught me reading my cell phone at lunch and reminded me, "You're not going to get dessert if you keep looking at your phone!"
