This pic is from the end of October, but I still wanted to share how much these guys love each other! Grace missed her baby brother terribly when she had to stay home sick from school. She kept asking, "Mommy, what do I do?"
One Sunday when Grace was still recovering from being sick, we were out to lunch with Mama Lisa and G-Rex after church when out of no where we looked up when we heard Grace cough and sputter, followed by spitting into Mama Lisa's salad bowl in the middle of a restaurant! We couldn't decide whether to laugh or be disgusted or reprimand Grace. Luckily Mama Lisa had finished her lunch prior to this event.
When I told Matthew what we were having for lunch he responded, "Oh yea? Sounds good mommy!" I love it when the kids actually respond positively to what I feed them!
We were out in the backyard playing when Grace said, "Mommy, see that ant bed on the tree? That's ridiclious [ridiculous]!" She was right...the ants situation has been out of control in Houston with all of the rain we've had lately.
In the same shopping trip as above, I pointed out the Swatch watch shop and all of the cool different colored watches they had. At the end of our trip, Grace insisted that she needed a watch before leaving. I told her she needed to put it on her list for Santa. However, to my surprise she got one by the end of the day! You see, we had dinner at a friend's house who has two older boys and the younger (also a Matthew) let Grace have one of his old watches that he wasn't interested in any more. So now grace is the proud owner of a blue watch with airplanes on it!
Last night the kids talked me into getting out my violin in lieu of a bedtime story. The song requested by Matthew was Ba Ba Blacksheep. Grace sang along, while Matthew played his guitar and I played my violin. Now Matthew is requesting me to play again this morning! He said, “You play your violin for me and I’ll play my guitar for you!”
In addition to singing the Lord's Prayer each night, Grace likes to say a "people prayer" which can go on for some time and go off in tangents. Lately I've been just sticking with the Lord's Prayer, but since we had extra time this evening, I let Grace say the people prayer. This time she stayed focused and rattled prayers for the following people: Memaw, Awpaw, Tux (Awpaw's cat that died), Awpaw getting another Tux, Yefferson (our sponsored child from El Salvador), Tatenda (our sponsored child from Zimbabwe), Molly (birtmother), Helen (cousin), Baby C (cousin), G-Rex, Mama Lisa, good healthy food, our house, friends at school (Patrick, Gwyneth, David and his not using baby talk or potty talk, etc.), Jesus, God, ....and probably others.
I treated Grace to a mommy/daughter night out to see a high school dance recital at my alma mater, The High School for Performing and Visual Arts. Before leaving the house she said, "First I need a hug from my daddy. I'm going to miss you, but you'll be at home with one of my cuties (Matthew)." The recital was a hit and she lasted through the entire performance! At intermission she said, "I want to stay!" She also noted that, "You're not supposed to stand on chairs!" after one performance that include chairs as props.
