Matthew and food

- On our way home in the car, Grace was sharing some Smarties with Matthew until she ran out. Then I heard her say, "There's no more candy." Then she signed "no more" and then she said it in Spanish, "No hay mas!". Looks like Jeff's impromptu Spanish lessons are paying off.

- Matthew has reached the age where he thinks it's really fun to bomb the floor with food from his highchair.

- Matthew's second sign was revealed this week..."all done"!

- The big news with Matthew is that he officially has food allergies. The big things he's allergic to are dairy and peanuts, but we have to avoid all tree nuts too (because they are processed on same equipment as peanuts) and eggs (because he had a significant reaction at home and could have had a false negative test). Matthew now has to have an EpiPen with him at all times and should not be exposed to peanuts at all. It is likely that he'll outgrow the dairy allergy, but less so the peanut one. Our prayer is that he will outgrow all of them over time. All of this is a bit hard to believe since I have eaten dairy and peanut butter almost every day of my life, but we'll make adjustments and learn together. It's ironic because one of my worries when adopting Grace was that she might have food allergies, but it's our biological child that has the problem!
