Awesome and Tiresome August

August was a whirlwind, thus the very late publish date (October) on our August fun!

The first week of August was filled with Vacation Bible School (a major event with 400+ kids, and I helped with a kindergarten class).  The following weeks we continued checking off things from our Houston Bucket List, with the last few weeks being particularly challenging and the kids grew tired of being around each other as well as being around me and vice versa.  But, we made it through!

Bucket List:
32)    Play with a puppy (Nyberg house)
33)    Westbury Community Garden
34)    Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (craft day)
35)    Vacation Bible School: Superhero City
36)    Stomping Grounds
37)    Zoo Splashpad (FAIL...it was HOT and the splashpad was closed :(
38)    Cullen Sculpture Garden
39)    We Love Houston sign
40)    Heights Public art
41)   Dino Park @ Travis Elementary
42)  Houston Museum of Natural Science Dinosaur Hall
43)  Noah’s Ark pool

In addition to our bucket list, here are some of the small, but memorable things that took place over the month:

Matthew ate his first entire scrambled egg!  This is big since he was allergic to eggs initially (outgrew the allergy about a year ago).  Now he's eating them like a champ!

Mid-naptime a thunderstorm was brewing outside and Grace (who hates to be alone during thunderstorms) came out of her room saying, "I promise I'll be quiet. That noise out there is from God, not me!"

Lately, it seems that both kids are remembering and retelling their dreams at night!  I don't know what age this is normal, but it seems early especially for Matthew (2 3/4 yrs)!

During one visit to the grocery, a couple of the grocery employees were sitting outside, one smoking.  Matthew immediately spoke up and said, "Smoking will make you die!"  The non-smoker sitting with the smoker said, "That's right!  You hear that?!"

Matthew discovered that he can take his shoes and socks off in the car and throw them at the driver (NOT GOOD)!  After doing this 3 times and being seriously scolded on the last time, he has not since repeated this offence.

Dad: "How did you get to be so brave?"
Grace: "God made me this way."

Matthew: Looking out the house window, "Hi lawnmowers!  Nice to see you!"
