August is a tough time of year for stay-at-home moms of toddlers in Houston. First, it's over 95 degrees most days and second, there is no mother's day out or other camps for this age group. So...we have to find wet outdoor or cool indoor activities for these very active kids. As a result, we have had lots of play dates at our house or friends' homes, visited indoor exhibits at the zoo, took in a few dollar movies and visited splash pads or pools. Mommy is ready for the fall and school to come soon!
- After watching a part of the Ice Age 4D movie at the zoo (we left early because Grace was scared), Grace told me, "Mommy, that movie encouraged bad behavior!"
- When riding in the car one day, Grace remarked, "Wow! That cloud is so big you could choke on it!"
- Grace's advice on exercise: "Mommy, you need a hula hoop to make your tummy flat." (This was actually part of a ploy to get herself a hula hoop...but she might have a point!)
- Matthew has discovered how to kiss by puckering and loves giving kisses now. After every kiss he gives, he gets a huge smile on his face!
- Always attentive to details, Grace reminded me before I departed for a meeting, "Mommy, don't forget your lipstick!"
- Matthew is now saying short sentences (besides "Go away!")
"I'm coming."
"I got that."
"I got you!"
"Hold you!" (This means "Hold me!")
- When Matthew is finished with something like a plate or a cup at the dinner table, he holds it out and says "Thank you!"
- Being the little brother of an older sister, Matthew likes doing some things more common with girls, like wearing jewelry and trying on shoes. He particularly likes wearing rubber bands on his arm and calls them "necks" (like necklace) instead of a bracelet. The one good thing about this is that he likes wearing his allergy alert bracelet (made by allerbling).
